    Could be because they aren't funny anymore. I used to watch Letterman religiously when Late Night first started back in the early 80's and he was unpredictable and hilarious. He had fake guests because he couldn't get the big names on his show and it was 10 times funnier. He's fallen into a boring formula since then...just drawing a massive paycheck. Leno, on the other hand, hasn't been funny since he took over the Tonight Show. If anyone can remember his comedy act before then, he was much funnier.

        One big reason is that politics is too much a part of their act.

          What Hollywood calls funny, I call stupid. This applies to late night as well as prime time.
