Posted by: Karina 1 year, 3 months agoIf there's one thing "American Idol" has proven over the past two seasons, it's that the best contestant doesn't always win.

Please... if the voting system has any merit to it at all, all of these people wouldn't be complaining.
Because if that were true, than the majority would have voted for Doolittle and she would still be in it.
This means one of three things, less people like Doolittle than you think and just aren't vocal about it... the voting is rigged... or people just can't handle losing and have to spout out about it.
I personally prefer Blake. We all know AI hasn't JUST been a singing competition since season 1. Blake has the performance (which Melinda didn't have) and he's creative (which Jordin isn't).
Even though I'm confident Jordin will win it, I want Blake to take it all. He's taken more risks and been more original in his music than any artist I've seen recently.
I don't think he's the best vocally, but when you tear 'em all apart and examine them... Blake comes closest to having the full package.

What do you mean "if the voting system has any merit"? The voters have voted as they do every day when they buy music. After all the Rolling Stones sell more than groups with better singers and better music. You just can't explain peoples' taste, which is precisely why there are so many recording artists and musical genres!

I just meant, how do we know the "one call = one vote" system is what is truly happening. I've never heard of who or how this is monitored.
And when they claimed a few weeks back that somewhere like 130 million votes came in, how can you accurately track that?
It just leaves room for suspicion if every vote really does count.
I don't think it's true, but it would seem with all of the people complaining that Melinda is gone, that the system is flawed or didn't accurately work... which is why I went out to point out the reasons why this might have happened.
Would there have been such an uproar over Blake or Jordin? I guess it was just because the judges have been oogling over her for so many weeks, people got used to the idea of her winning without thinking twice about it.

The voting is rigged.
Look at the facts, if you look at www.dialidol.com they track the number of busy signals their callers get. Dolittle was way busier than the other two. This means that in all likelyhood AI knew it didn't want Melinda "the turtle" Dolittle to win because she would be as marketable as Taylor Hicks. So all they would have to do is cut down the number of lines available to the turtle and give Jordan and Blake more lines. That way you get them with more total counting votes and boot the one you didn't want in there.
I mean lets be honest, the fact that people can call and get a busy signal means that AI doesn't care if they count every vote or even want to count every vote. If it was a truly fair system they would have enough lines that no one ever got a busy signal.
All those reality TV shows have little caveats in the rules that allow the people running the show to decide the winners. Its reality TV not Jeopardy.

He did awesome on "Time of the Season". And he didn't resort to beat boxing on it.
And he really hasn't been doing much of it at all lately.

The best entertainer was the Indian kid. Whether the panel felt he could hold a good tune or not, he was by far the best entertainer and the one that brought the audience back week after week. When the panel eliminated him, they also eliminated the reason for a large portion of the audience to tune in. Suggest next time audience appeal and sheer entertainment value be a factor in the ratings given by the panel.

It's not called "America's Most Perfect Voice", and I don't know if you've noticed, but a lot of pop stars don't have the best voice in the world, they have personality and that "something else" that makes them appealing. America apparently prefers the entertainment of Blake over the vocal abilities of Melinda. They may like listening to Melinda's voice, but they'd rather see Blake in concert. American Idol reflects what people want in a pop star, and if you are depressed because the person you preferred didn't make it, my question is, how many times did you vote?

I like watching AI but what a joke it has turned out to be!
Doolittle is the best one that they have had on the show this season. She should have been the winner! The sad think is that Blake will be the winner. Did you see all the little girls, and I do mean little girls out there to see him. Crying and carrying on for him. They are the ones that are doing all the voting! Wait till they find out that he is Gay and don't stand a chance in hell with him! Then I'll be laughing even more!

AI made a mistake... they put her on because they figured she would get booted early and their eye candy would last longer. When she lasted this long it was probably terrifying to AI that another Taylor Hicks unmarketable would win again and they would again be forced to sign a singer that can't sell.
Yes, melinda had the best voice of those they had on there but lets be honest, you could find better voices in America than any of those on the show but they don't care about the voices, if they did they would have the judges blindfolded during auditions and pick singers based solely on their abiltiy to sing.

They are all talented. So no matter how good they are--only one can win--somebody has to loose. Melinda is a highly polished singer and I think that the fans of the show probably vision "their" idol as being much younger than 28. She'll end up with a record deal from the diva-maker" himself "Clive Davis." And probably Lakisha too.

Agreed. As good as Melinda was, I think everyone will still have their favorite, and a lot of us want the 'underdog' to win, and we want to see the lesser established singer come out and take it.
We all know Melinda had a previous musical background as a backup singer. Seeing someone with talent win who only sang in the shower or while driving in their car has some sort of odd appeal to it.

I flippin' loved when Daughtry sang 'Hemmorhage (In my hands)' by Fuel.
Probably the best American Idol performance ever (in the rock genre).

The best doesn't always win American Idol. Look at last year? The "Soul Patrol" is now the "No patrol".
Melinda will do far better than the dweeb Blake. He shouldn't be in the top 2.
My eardrumbs bleed everytime he tries to sing high notes as well as his corny beatbox.

One more reason I don't even watch American Idol, just because you're the best doesn't mean you'll win - far from it

I was surprised at first, because Melinda is the best singer of the three. But let's take a look at the lion's share of AI voters: female teenyboppers. Of COURSE they're going to vote for a young, beatboxing hipster (Blake) and another female teenybopper (Jordin). Melinda was just too old--and so professional that she didn't necessarily have an "undiscovered" vibe. She's a professional singer already.

You assume people are being allowed to vote. I suggest the producer manipulate the outcome by limiting the number of lines available for people to call in. What assurance do we have that the number of lines is equal for all contestants? None. We do know that from dialidol.com DOlittle had the most busy signals yet she also got the fewest votes... Hmmm... how does that happen.

None of them were talented to warrant noteriety. None were like Carey Underwood, Clay Aiken or Kelly Clarkston who won. American Idol has become unimpressive with mediocre talent.

From Melinda's first audition to her last performance on Idol, her voice and the art of using it has excelled all the others. I dont buy too many cd's but I could sit back and enjoy her on the radio driving back and forth to work. R&B and Jazz are coming into a gendre of it's own of relaxing music to slow down the fast paced and tension packed work days of this age.

This show and all the damm reality shows should all get cut from the line up. What a crock they all are. No one wins with any talent or real skill, not this one, and certainly not survivor. how is voting someone off an island surviving. put em on island for 14 days with 7 days of food let em really survive. American idol, what a crock all the idol winners I have heard blow. who cares....

That's what I'm sayin'!
Up the competition, put them on a real island... 2 camera people to a person, not the crew of 200 they actually have...
Let them literally try to survive and instead of a time limit, just see who can outlast who!
Survivor always have been nothing short of Road Rules (MTV).
