A new survey from Pew Research judged the levels of knowledgeability (correct answers) among those surveyed and found that those who scored the highest were regular watchers of The Daily Show and Colbert Report. Virtually bringing up the rear were regular watchers of Fox News. Only 1 in 3 could answer 2 out of 3 questions correctly.

I wasn't surprised to hear about this survey which is making the blogosphere rounds today. I think it really speaks to the difference between journalistic standards in news reporting and ideology. The Daily Show and Colbert Report crowd get most of their information from print sources, mostly in independent news venues and foreign press which are not subject to the lapdog gyrations of the corporate media amnesia industry in the US. Faux Spews is not a news organization, it is a propatainment network that is entirely filtered by neocon ideology. Propaganda is ideologically driven and that's what Faux Spews offers: a steady diet of ideological offal for wingnut swine to regurgitate.

"The fact that a particular news source's audience is very knowledgeable does not mean that people learned all that they know from that source. As noted earlier, some news sources draw especially well-educated audiences who are keenly interested in politics. Because of their education and life experiences, these individuals have more background information and may be better able to retain what they see in the news, regardless of where they see it. "

IE don't put a whole lot into the results

What's funny is that the viewers of "The Simpsons" would have scored better than those that watch the cable FOX news. LMAO

I took the quiz. I really can't believe that there are people out there who don't know the answers to these questions.

The mainstream media still refers to Matt Drudge for their leads. No wonder some (very) smart comedians are better sources of news.

Funny bit. About the whole "FoxNews says exactly the opposite" approach like, "liberals hate freedom," while neo-cons dismantle the Bill of Rights kind of thing.

(It works for almost anything political FoxNews was saying for a long time...)

Anyway, a few weeks ago they quipped, "FoxNews- Fair Balanced, and Unafraid."

                    They are scared s***less.

I do not care where I get info from but I would prefer Fox News to other forms of press on the TV. But I do not limit myself to only Fox News either! So tainted surveys and ramdom research can be spun for one side or other mean nothing to me either! I also have watched those shows too! If you are a news buff you would not limit your sources even if they lean one or other! Because news can be spun it sway you opinion on subjects and it is done everyday!

Interestingly enough, accurate information is key to making informed decisions in a democracy. If the information from your preferred news source does not allow you to answer factual questions, how can your opinions on issues be informed as well?

Again, the key to understanding issues and positions is a requirement for informed voting. If Fox News viewers cannot answer straightforward questions about the nation, the economy and the world, how can they be expected to be active and viable members of the democracy, instead of uninformed people whose opinions are easy to manipulate?
