Making fun of the president is not ideological. Not making fun of the president, on the other hand, is. That's what distinguishes "The Half Hour News Hour," a Fox News version of "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," from most other satirical shows.

I've only seen a preview clip, but what I saw was really pathetic. It's sort of like Steve Colbert if he was taking himself seriously.

Well they CLAIM their news is fair and balanced. This certainly isn't. I think they are finally unveiling their true colors. As the article states Stewart skewers both sides. This is purely partisan but so are all of their shows. A true liberal would do well not to set foot on their sets. Calling Alan Colmes and Susan Estrich!!!
Wonder what will Coulter and Limbaugh do together? Maybe a reach around on each other, or maybe grab a couple of the crew and have a Circle J--k! A good ol' Republican party for all!

I dont watch Fox anymore because I think all cable new sucks. But can you guy's give me an example of why Fox news isnt fair and balanced? any examples would be nice. Most of the time I see Orielly and he always has both sides on his show. Hannity and Colmes are Republican and Democrat. It must be because they dont bad mouth Bush.

i've seen a snippet. no matter which side of the line you fall on what makes this show such a catastrophic failure is the same demented canned laughter that greets even the flattest of punchlines. As if those who would watch it need to be instructed on when it's supposed to be funny.
It ranks alongside light entertainment such as america's dumbest animals. Another problem seems to be this show is supposed to be an antidote to the daily show as though the daily show only lampoons the right. Being the party in power the material is perhaps more abundant but to create a show that is just an attack on the left, as if that is the only 'fair and balanced' thing to do demonstrates a real lack of understanding (or unwillingness to understand) the reality. Put it this way:
'Half hour news hour wont make anycomment on Bush in Iraq. Daily show never made any comment on Bill Clinton/Lewinsky'
Only one of those statements is true. It would seem that they really just don't get it.

i think conservative humor must be different from liberal humor. conservatives claim Coulter is funny, i don't think she's even good for a giggle.
conservatives don't have enough appreciation for chaos, which is a very necessary ingredient in humor.

I agree it is human nature. However I think the difference here is that in the Daily Show you have a show that makes fun of the system, not just the politics but the way media typically covers political news. Then you have this which is simply a chance to make jokes at the left with canned laughter, some of which may I add were not only not funny but borderline racist. I mean watch it, there are clip here and there, not great.

Let me put it this way; if the show was funny, I would watch it.
The writing and delivery of this show is appallingly bad. That's not an evaluation of the content, that's an evaluation of the talent and the production team.

Okay, the show sucks --- how much glee can you libs get from one terrible show???
((It's not funny because the Coulter/Limbaugh-esque mindset is hilarious without them even trying...or making a mock news show out of it. They don't get it. These people, FoxNews, etc. already are the humor.))
You're right Coulter and Limbaugh ARE hilarious. Most who are in agreement with them about anything at anytime (even once in awhile) realize these people are engaging in hyperbole and don't take themselves anywhere near as seriously as liberals tend to. By the way, Wm. F. Buckley and George Will are also quite funny.
But, although the liberals tend to insist that conservatives have no sense of humor, I have never met any conservative who takes him/herself as seriously as the average liberal.

You might have a point there. One thing I have always suspected is that the reason that Limbaugh and O'Reilly's ratings are so high is because of all the liberal bloggers/media tuning in to see what BS they will spout next... so they can turn around to caw and post about it. Liberal media ultimately gives these kooks more exposure than they deserve.
Then again...it's always good to know about the crazies out there...you know, so you can protect the children.

These people would never make it in the comedy business, or they were too hogtied by Fox "fair ad balanced" management to make things really funny.

Lately reading these threads I honestly want to vomit, can anyone stay on topic without ranting about the left or the right? I think that saying liberal or conservative or left or right should be banned because it absolutley ends any actual discussion. As soon as someone sees that the person they are talking to is on the other side of the fence they atomatically disagree, hat a joke. Dave 53 what are you talking about? Who care if the show sucks they are just giving back what the left loves to do, why even post just to be argumentative? If the show sucks it sucks that is what the thread is about.

It's all they know, really.
I agree. Funny is funny. If the show was funny, it would have a snowball's chance, and might be picked up by an actual entertainment networks, and not the Fox "News"
Channel.
That alone is satirical enough.

The show is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like Fox News Channel. I only wish that my Dish didn't have all that other garbage that I pay for. I could save a lot by not having that trash and just have the channels I want.

I really don't care if the show is funny or not,it's not like they are gonna compete with SNL.I am just glad they have finally put something on to counter what has long been overdue, weather it works or not, just having them come on and be able to peel back the layers of hypocrocy on the Left is all that matters to me.The skits they ran were to really show how stupidly funny the Left is,which may not be funny at all when u see how stupid they are.

Is this similar to the Right, when they say they are the party of family values, while cutting programs that are designed to help the poor and needy? Wasn't the Right at one time fiscally conservative and responsible? Didn't they pass the biggest pork ladden bills ever? Wasn't the Right who said they were the party of morality? Is starting an unjustifiable war that caused untold dealth and misery upon Iraq and the USA moral? Lying is not a moral trait either, but the Right lied about WMDs, catching Osama, outing a CIA agent, we are winning the war in Iraq and are protecting the constitution of the United States of America with unauthorized wire tapping, imprisoning people without charging them with a crime and promoting torture. Hypocrites? The Right sure fits the definition a little better than the Left..

I can see this new Half Hour News Hour really bothers the Liberals. Drives them crazy. That has got to be fair and balanced.
Not to worry much about fair and balanced. I have heard Fox News, Rush, Sean and Anne Coulter seriously hammer the Bush Administration over some of their policies. Especially the illegal alien policy; making unhappy Conservatives one reason Bush takes a beating in the poll numbers.
You do not get that from the Libs. The Liberal/Democrat policy is non-existant except to bad mouth Bush and make sure the war in Iraq fails and pray for dead bodies for political purposes. Now that's real patriotic isn't it.

Seriously and I'm going to go ahead and speak for my liberal friends here, we could care less. If it's funny, it's funny. However, this 'show' isn't funny. It's sad really.
Now, your comment as to the Democratic agenda does bear some weight. Although, to be honest, they did work through their hundred hour agenda. Now the questions are going to start about the war in Iraq and how it is being managed.
Don't question other people's patriotism. Most of the liberals that I know on this site have military credentials. Including myself.

I just love it when a Liberal moans about someone questioning his/her Patriotism....especially in a time of war.It seems to me it is more fashionable on the LEFT to want to "lose" this war.That is, you can be Patriotic and want to WIN,or you can be Patriotic and want to LOSE.
I think Libs have made it crystal clear,in the last election and in the House of Congress.
Seems stupid to go against the President when he is trying to beat Terrorism in an age of possible 9-11's , but isn't that what the majority of Liberals are doing, are they not against this President for what he is so desperately trying to conquer?

Please explain exactly how you believe that bombing innocent men, women & children, destroying their homes, and demolishing their infrastructure. And please remember that IRAQ HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11 - According to the Republicans _AND_ Democrats in Congress. As well as Bush.
And if you feel it's patriotic to force kids to continue to die for a lie, go ahead.

I just love it when the righty cons are so incredibly wrong, but don't have the stones to admit it, the ulitimate cowardice. Now they can only attack in some vague ideological way, bitter that they are losing the war, and too stupid to change stratagy, because they are too yellow to admit they are wrong.
I have a skit for the new Faux comedy, put Shotgun Dicky in a room with the drug addicted Ted Nugget Head, and let them shoot it out with a laugh track. That's entertainment!
