Television – Wil's got another review up today, this time taking us back to where hatred for young Crusher may have pinnacled among some Trekkies at the fault of writers.
Wil... did you as a young actor every poke back at the writers or was "talent" always kept at arms length? I can see someone as experienced as Patrick saying "hey guys...this needs work.." but the new kid on the block?
Great job on the reviews... you should be gathering them in book form!
Gary
We had script meetings in the beginning where we could talk with the writers and producers, but I was really too young and inexperienced to add anything useful to them. I went to the first ten or so before I stopped, because I really felt out of place there.
When Gene stopped handling day-to-day stuff on the show, the meetings stopped, too, if I recall correctly.
"Dr. Crusher doesn't know why he has it, and she wants to give Picard a special examination. However, before the porn music can begin...."
Wil you should not talk of your Mother like that.
Uh. I wasn't talking about my mother. I was talking about my fictional character's fictional mother on a fictional show.
Sorry still trying to learn the difference between TV and reality.
So you're a real person pretending to be someone else on TV.
But now you're not stuck in side my TV anymore and now you are stuck in my computer. WOW.
I was at my frends house and he has a Big screen TV and I was surprised at how tall you had gotten.
I think I better get my meds adjusted.
Thanks for the wake up call Wil.
You know Will I am struck by the fact that you repeatedly try to downplay the abilities of the other actors. Then its the writers fault that everyone hates poor Wesley. Sounds like "big" Wesley has some issues he needs to work through. I'm not a "trekkie" but I would say that my wife is. She loved TNG. So I usually went along for the ride. I never once heard her say anything derogatory about Wesley or anyone else in the show. Maybe, you're just giving to much credit to the impact the show had on people. Most of us HUUMAANS just recognized the show as good entertainment. I admit I could only get about half way through your review. I did not find it as funny as the rest obviously did. Sorry....
Just the opposite. Seems he is always going out of his way to praise the performances of the other actors. Not having read the whole review you have missed the following sentence, flyrod. I'll supply it for you:
[snip]"Once we get past that, it's actually not that bad of an episode, owing almost exclusively to Patrick Stewart's acting."
He's praised other actors in other posts. Btw, writers are responsible for the scripts. Weak episode = weak script 9 times out of 10.
Good review Wil. I think, if anything, that you are ragging on Wesley and your portrayal of him too hard. As much as it may hurt my 'street cred' to say so, I always *liked* Wesley. I think he was never used as well as he could have been, but he still was my connection to the show, a way for me to fantasize about being there in his stead (which was probably the intention for him all along).

Great review, as always.
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the way this one turned out. Obviously, experiencing the complete idiocy of Wesley Crusher in all its horribly-written glory firsthand was a little painful, but the other aspects of the show were really nice to watch.
I wonder how the Ferengi would have been developed and received if they'd been more like DaiMon Bok from this episode than the cowering, leering, leaping, cowardly idiots they were in The Last Outpost?
It seems like we didn't do very well with our first impressions back in the day!
