Television – The sometime-pop star is sitting in on Babs' roundtable this week, apparently as a kind of audition for Star's old job.
God Forbid!
I have watched her on "America's Got Talent." AWFUL! I've seen her interview on other shows. Not good. She needs to stick to entertainment.
The original concept for the view was women of different backgrounds with different perspectives.
Meredith Viera was the news perspective in Barbara's absence. Star, good or bad, was the legal perspective and the advocate. Joy brought humor and Lisa/Elizabeth, or that other woman brought a younger perspective to the show.
With Rosie, who is not hard news, and who is an advocate of sorts, the show needs to replace Star wtih someone "believable," someone with credibility in law or advocacy. Elizabeth doesn't cut it. Joy is great, but she is a comic. Rosie almost infringes on Joy's turf.
Barbara needs to tread carefully, here. Stick to what works!
I thought Renee Goldsberry the actress did a very credible job and is my choice so far to replace Star.
As to dratbc's comment on Star bringing a legal aspect to the show, she did that in the early years, but as time went on, she did less and less of it IIRC.
A couple of years ago she quit referring to herself as a lawyer, and I wonder if she kept her education up to continue to be a lawyer and/or let her license lapse. No self-respecting lawyer would do that.
Just as Lisa Ling brought the younger viewers into watching the show, it's probably the reason why Brandy was asked to guest host, just to see how she fared with both the studio and TV audience.
Meredith Vieira was the only reason that show did as well as it did in the first place. She is the most intelligent, articulate, and genuinely witty and sophisticated person. The others were boring nuisance chatterboxes. Meredith is talented enough to have her own show. Can't say that about any of the others, not even BW, who would not be anywhere without those inane celebrity interviews she does. Now that Vieira replaces Katie Couric on the Today Show, maybe she'll raise the bar yet again.
I like Brandy...hope it works out for her. I really can't tell what Barbara and ABC are looking for....just another African American face or someone to add credibility to the show?
Not a huge Star fan, but I wish ABC had handled this situation a little better. They've lost a few points with me. I wish Star all the best in her future endeavors.

Is Brandy more than just another pretty face that can sing? Can she share wit with Ms. Walters and the other ladies? I don't think so, but it would be a wonderful idea if Brandy could prove the majority wrong and bring more of the young viewers attention to the show. I don't have a lot of faith in Brandy being a solid replacement for the likes of Ms. Jones.
